Ho Chi Minh City will begin installing rooftop solar panels at the headquarters of administrative agencies and public service units from September this year, said deputy director of the municipal Department of Industry and Trade Nguyen Thi Kim Ngoc. The biggest problem of solar power systems lies in how to discard solar panels, Ngoc said, adding that producers and importers of such products have been forced to collect and recycle them to prevent an impact on the environment. The plan will specify the responsibility of relevant agencies for ensuring environmental protection, fire prevention and fighting, electricity safety, and the design of solar power systems. In an earlier report submitted to the lawmaking National Assembly, the city allowed administrative agencies and public facilities to install rooftop solar panels to power themselves. In the past, households, individuals, and enterprises in the city have registered to install rooftop solar power systems.
