The Ho Chi Minh City Department of Construction has proposed developing six more parks to increase green space in the city. The Ho Chi Minh City People’s Council has green-lit four of them with a combined price tag of VND1.59 trillion ($64.4 million). They include a project to develop infrastructure, a school and a park in the current Binh Hung Hoa Cemetery in Binh Tan District, the Thanh Loc Park project and the Tan Chanh Hiep Park project in District 12, and the Tan Thanh Tay Park project in Cu Chi District. The department reported that it’s hard to call on private investors to get involved in public park projects as such projects are not eligible for the public-private partnership model. The management and exploitation of public parks, such as vehicle parking services, canteens, and vending machines, shows many shortcomings and bottlenecks.
