Vietnamese carrier Pacific Airlines has proposed offering its backup aircraft for lease if other local airlines are overwhelmed with surging travel demand as the Lunar New Year holiday, or Tet, is drawing near. Pacific Airlines is the only airline in the country to announce that it has arranged one backup aircraft to serve the Tet holiday, about a week away. Other member airlines under Vietnam Airlines Group, including Vietnam Airlines and Vasco, as well as local carriers can lease the backup plane from Pacific, it said. Vietnamese carriers will operate 24,200 flights, equivalent to over five million seats during the upcoming Tet holiday, rising two percent and four percent, respectively, versus Tet 2023. The experts suggested the carriers arrange backup aircraft to reduce flight delays and cancelations caused by bad weather conditions or technical issues.
