The administration of District 1 in Ho Chi Minh City has said it is addressing excessive parking fees at tourist spots such as Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street and Bach Dang Wharf in response to complaints made by residents and visitors. The People’s Committee of the district vows to handle unauthorized parking operations while intensifying inspections of licensed parking establishments. It plans to organize motorcycle parking through bidding on the three routes near Nguyen Hue Pedestrian Street, namely Mac Thi Buoi, Ngo Duc Ke, and Hai Trieu, to select suitable operators and set reasonable charges. The committee has also sought permission from the city’s administrion for the temporary use of vacant land in downtown areas for parking during festivals and public holidays. In 2023, the urban order management team of District 1 collaborated with relevant agencies to issue 291 citations for parking violations, amounting to over VND900 million (US$36,915) in administrative fines.
