Hanoi to hold no fireworks displays for New Year celebration

A representative of the administration in Hanoi has denied a rumor that the city will hold fireworks displays at five locations to welcome the new year, affirming that the capital city has no such plan. Each district in the city was told to designate one location for a pyrotechnic display while authorities in Hoan Kiem District chose two. The rumor captured the public’s attention and many local residents invited relatives and friends to join them to see the fireworks. The representative of the Hanoi People’s Committee said the city would hold a countdown event at Dong Kinh Nghia Thuc Square, adjacent to iconic Ho Guom (Sword Lake) in Hoan Kiem District, on New Year's Eve. Leaders of Hoan Kiem and Tay Ho Districts also rejected plans to hold fireworks shows on the New Year holiday.
